When our community or patients receive a call from one of our hospitals or health services, the call is displayed as 'private numbers' or 'no caller ID'.

We want to know what you think about receiving these calls.

Your view will help us decide if we should make changes to our phone system.

We are exploring four options.

  • Display the Main Hospital Number

When you receive a call from the hospital, it will show the main hospital switchboard number (e.g., Liverpool Hospital: 02 8738 3000).

    Good things:

    • Easier to recognise the call as coming from the hospital.

    Other things to think about:

    • Extra calls to main line (switchboard) might lead to longer wait times.
    • Phone operators won't know who made the call, so will only be able to transfer the call if the person knows who could have called them.
  • Display the Actual Phone Number

When you receive a call from the hospital, it will show the actual phone number of the person calling (e.g., 02 8738 5858).

    Good things:

    • Missed calls can be returned directly to the person or phone line who called.

    Other things to think about:

    • Staff may receive calls that should be going through a central or intake phone line.
    • If the staff is on the phone, away or not on shift, you may not get a quick response.
  • Display a Number with an Automated Message

When you miss a call from us, you’ll see a number. If called, you’ll hear a generic recorded message. This will tell you which hospital or service called, but not who it was or which department.

    Good things:

    • Provides general information
    • You can choose options to connect to the switchboard or some departments (e.g., Press 1 for switchboard, Press 2 for outpatients).

    Other things to think about:

    • You won’t know who called unless they leave a message
    • You might not be able to call them back directly.
  • Continue Displaying as ‘No Caller ID’

Things stay as they are and there are no changes
